Hey Good Lookin'...

Eureka! In cleaning out 4 years worth of excessive paper that threatened to consume our home office, I have unearthed our lost recipe for homemade granola. It is on a yellowed 70s themed lined recipe card in the handwriting of my mom's friend Diane (they were all Dianes and Barbs and Bevs back then, with Tiffanies, Stephanies and Jennifers for daughters LOL). They made their own granola, grew sprouts and even had special tupperware to do everything from salad dressing to homemade yogurt.

The top of the recipe card says, "here's what's cookin'" with lovely 70s font

Granola (perfectly executed longhand script, fancy G)

In a large bowl -- I use my huge tupperware cake container, combine the following

5 cups old fashioned oat meal
1 cup toasted shaved almonds or any mixture of favorite nuts -- pecans and almonds are good combo (then added in my mom's lovely script in pencil, one word WALNUTS)
1 cup sesame seeds
1 " sunflower seeds (raw)
1 " shredded coconut
1 " soy flour
1 " non instant dry powdered milk
1 " raw wheat germ

Combine 1 c honey 1 c safflower oil (my mom adds: heat to blend, and MY MOMS VERY GOOD ADD'N HERE: 1 t vanilla, cinnamon)

Pour oil mixture over dry ingredients and mix well. Spread on 2 large jelly roll pans and bake 250 degrees 35 minutes, stirring every10-15 min. Cool on trays - store in tightly covered containers in frig.

Addendum: Speaking of classic recipes -- Tonight at the buffet Graham decided to delve into the ambrosia salad. He had seconds on that along with meat and a tamale. Musing over his whipped white wonderful third-of-a-plateful, he almost had stars in his eyes as he spoke, "This stuff is so good. It's like...mmmm...like my girlfriend and the lady I'm going to marry all mixed up together!"
