Hello out there in blogland. I have been absent because my computer has a virus. Apparently this virus ate half my files, so the folks in Al's IT department are busily restoring everything. Hopefully I get it back this afternoon. It is cliche, but it is like having a major appendage chopped off! I can't wait to get it back. Meanwhile, Al-the-Thoughtful has loaned me his laptop. The kids study me with concern, and pronounce, "Mommy, you using Daaaaaaaaaaddy's capooter. Your capooter is sick? That's Daddy's, Mommy."
This week has been a series of malfunctions. The alarm system has been going off in the middle of the night. They came to fix it, and the next night it was more of the same. Today they are going to replace the back-up battery. I hope that gets it back to normal. There is nothing like being startled awake in the night by an alarm system.
We also converted our pool from chlorine to saline. I had heard about this kinder, gentler way of maintaining the pool ph, and it sounded too good to be true. The water isn't as harsh, and you don't smell of chlorine. They put a new processing filter, and explained that chlorine is somehow a byproduct of the saline. Any chem majors out there, I'm sure you could diagram this for us chemically. It's brilliant and I'm so excited. As the pool guy was explaining things to me, Paige yelled, "Mommy, Graham fell in the pool!" And before she got halfway through that sentence I was lunging into the pool, fully-clothed to get him. He did paddle and kick but his head was below the surface. He must have held his breath. He did not cry, just acted a little shocked. The rest of the day, he told EVERYONE in his path that he'd fallen in the pool. We thanked Paige for saving him. He thanked me. He hugged me hourly and said, "I love you Mommy. Mommy save me. I scared. Mommy save me." We're all looking forward to swimming lessons this summer!!!!!!!

Glad that worked out.......
I shudder just to think of it Steph. Hopefully they will both be more careful around the pool, since Graham knows you "saved him." Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
Holy SH................! That's what I said out loud as I read your blog this morning! Thank heavens that our Grahamie is OK, that Paigie is our hero AND that Mommy is so quick on her feet!!! Life is never dull in the Walker household.
Love, Nana
Whew- scary moment for mommy, way to go Paige.
A friend of mine had a saline pool but they had trouble with it, I forget what it was now, but they had to go back to Chlorine, I hope it works out for you because not smelling of chlorine and what it does to your hair would be nice.
Probably totally unecessary and unwanted advice or whatever, but do you guys have a pool alarm of some kind? My parents have a pool and we have those braclets for the kids that if they get wet and alarm goes off. And they have a mesh pool fence too. I am really paranoid about my parents pool, Brayden is SUCH an escape artist.
I have been wanting to put in a koi pond in my backyard for a while now, but I am so paranoid about the kids falling in, I am going to wait a while.
Okay, two things I must add here before you all wonder if red is really my true hair color. One, I realize salt is sodium chloride, I just don't know how the chlorine gets broken off. Second, YES, I have a great Katchakid net that I put on the pool, but it was off for the pool guy to do his system conversion.
This experience reminded me, even with all the safety nets in the world, you still can't be more than a quick sprint away when you have a pool because they can and will fall in at some point.
The koi pond sounds like a great idea, Carla. And you of all people would be awesome at making it not only work but look fantastic. I've heard they are a lot of work, but I'm guessing that kind of work is right up your alley. Can't wait to see it come to fruition.
I was so glad to see you back online, and very glad that Graham is OK. You must be OK, too - you don't even sound too shell-shocked!
OMG Steph, how scary!! And WTG Paige for alerting mommy! It gives me the chills to even think about little Graham in the pool!!! I'm so glad he's ok!
Hope your "capooter" is fixed soon!
WELL!!! you can do without any more of those escapades!!! what luck that you were all on the ball! xxxxx

GEEzz, Stephie! When I first learned of Graham falling in- I was FREAKED OUT! Then, Graham told me himself...

Hey Steph! I'm enjoying all of the updates...I'll tell you that the saline pool is cool! So far all we do is put a little packet of minerals in about every two weeks and enjoy crystal clear water. You come out with skin that feels soft and silky...none of that yucky dry skin from days gone by! I think you will love it.
