Last night's soft rainstorm ended with dark skies illuminated with bold flashes of lightening. Cold, humid air this morning and persistent cloudy skies all day today kept our temperatures in the mid-60s at best. We partook of the most decadent, lobster-laden brunch EVER at the Brant Point Grill within the White Elephant. Some people were excited to see Frank and Kathy Lee Gifford in line at the buffet. I was not. Let them be, I say, and leave me to snap paparazzi shots of my own brood. We strolled out on the wharf for a mid-meal break, and had a lovely conversation with Pete, Captain of the Althea and owner of the Brant Point Inn. He was so kind and colorful. He shared photobook with Graham and regaled us with tales of shark fishing and more. Naptime for Ev was overdue, so Al took the girls home and I got some sweet hours alone with Graham. We had a couple of errands in town first, though. Not the least of which was our beloved construction site for more scraps. Next we revisited the oldest windmill again, this time long enough to take the tour. We marveled at the massive wooden cogs in the mill, the giant old wood beams. Graham enjoyed learning about the nether stone and the grist stone, the mill built in 1746, and the stones weighing a whopping 3500 lbs each! Many of our phrases come from the windmill lore -- you only ever hang either two or four of the windmill sheets. Three sheets to the wind applies to both sailing and windmill sheets, apparently: if you only hang three of the four sheets, the apparatus goes caddywampus and risks coming off kilter. I leave you with the other two phrases to ponder.
Back home we contemplated our boat-scheme and I made a simple pasta primavera. Bedtime came after a short history lesson -- namely that the windmill and house are 68 and 38 years, respectively, older than the Star Spangled Banner. Noone really wants to go to sleep. Ev is downstairs crooning, "I Want To Dance With You, Twirl You All Around the Floor" Oh geez.

I love the pic of Graham and Ev at attention on the boat, listening to whatever the captain is telling them. So nice to see pictures of you with Ev doing whatever you are doing - catching the rain on your tongues?? Ev looks so grown up with her Daddy. Where is Paige in all this?
Love, Nana
