*Do it yourself, or more aptly maybe I should entitle this entry CUWITHYCADDI (Come up with the idea, then have your carpenter and Dad do it) Yeah, I like the ring of that Cuwithycaddi!
When we bought this house the flatscreen tv connections were already in place. They had hidden the televisions with remote-controlled, hydrolic-lifting oil paintings. I had something a little less reliant on technology in mind to hide them. So I went to the now-closed Neiman's Last Call Clearance Center (well, they moved it out to Katy Mills Mall, which is about halfway to Jenn's from here)and bought a pseudo-chinoiserie screen for about $150.
I hired a carpenter to build a frame, reorient the hinges on the screen so that they open from the middle and accordian fold on either side with magnetic closures in the center. Then I waited until we had our sattelite issues ironed out (new tv, now new sat box too) before going ahead with painting the frame. My dad popped over on Saturday morning, caulked the screw holes, painted a base coat, then a black topcoat and VOILA> we love it! Thanks for the hard work, Grandad!
