Oh, that was Monday. We spent the rest of the day outside. We picnicked in the park across from our house. We walked to see the horses. That's the phrase we always use "go see the horses" because there used to be three of them. The patriarch of the estate, which backs up to the train tracks for added toddler excitement, passed away this spring. Apparently, two of his horses followed suit. Now there is just one horse. So we talk about death when we visit this one horse. And loneliness (Paige figures he's very lonely now). And how life is not forever but love is.
After our chat with the horse, we walked to Mrs. Perry's house to ask permission to jump on her trampoline. It is so great having friends/neighbors with things like that.

Paige and Graham helped craft their own dinner using pasta, bacon and herbs from our garden. They ate it up with a side of kiwi on a picnic blanket on our front lawn. Many neighbors and friends came walking by, including one man who walks a tremendous distance everyday and never speaks. We always say hi and usually get the slightest acknowledgement of our greeting in the form of a nod. Monday he said, "Looks peaceful" There I sat with a glass of red wine and my gorgeous curlytops in the evening sun. It was.
Mrs. Lane came by (another fine neighbor) and sat with us as the kids finished their second platefuls. The Lane's have a miraculous volunteer tomato plant that just won't quit. It has grown all summer and now wraps around a tree in their front yard, providing a steady stream of pearl-sized tomatoes, to the delight of Paige and Graham. We really like this tomato plant because it links food to nature and us to our neighbors.
We busted out laughing at the end of this peaceful evening. When Paige, in repose on the front lawn, revealed to Mrs. Lane and Mommy that she was, in fact, pantiless. Oh Paige!
(all these pictures are from Monday. The kids changed clothes mid-afternoon)

Paige is right - that lone horse probably is lonely. They are pack animals and really should not be housed alone. Sometimes a goat or donkey will suffice...
Sounds like a lovely day.
Sounds ever so peaceful. Poor horse, hope he acquires some friends soon. XXXX
What great pictures. And, yes, I'm so happy we were updated. You left us on a cliff-hanger on Monday, Steph!!!! =)
I love the pics of the kiddos climbing the trees! What big-adventure-seekers!
I've been constantly taking the kids I babysit after school outside in this LOVELY, Fall weather. It's just too pretty to waste, when there are numerous games of hide & seek and soccer to play! =)
Can't wait until next blog posting.
XOXOXO!
