A break from the sweltering heat

We've been in Aspen. Bad timing: us relaxing, the rest of Houston buckling down. But I have a sneaking suspicion there will be plenty of time to do my part, and plenty of need, too, after the initial swell of support dies down. Don't you wonder what is not being said but being felt by volunteers and victims alike? Government run facilities for mass quantities of people...hmm...not sure I can think of a better recipe for dissention, mob mentality and hysteria. Also, frankly, I think many white people are paralyzed (edited to add: by this I mean, paralyzed with fear. If all the news media show us is violence, it does shape our impressions. In this way, I think the media has exacerbated the racial divide, but then good works rarely make the headlines, right?). Personally, with stories of rape and shootings, I wonder how can a mother of toddlers jump in there? Food, diapers, clothing, MONEY, yes, these help. But there will be longer-term needs for employment, housing and schooling. I know from friends that the public AND private schools around here are scrambling to make room quickly to take them in. The solutions will be slow going, I think.

In Colorado, we took oodles of vacation pics, as per usual. Each day I had to delete about 50 that Paige took. Although I did save a couple that were nice. I like seeing the world through her lens.

Here is a MUCH abreviated sampling. Sorry to have been so quiet, we were very busy being outdoors, as the pictures will bear witness...
