La Meme Chose

hey, that means the same thing in french. My sister Jenn says this thing is called a meme on blogs. It is a repeated theme. La meme chose. Okay, here goes. Hee hee that rhymes. She interviews me, and I offer to interview 5 of you. If you want to be interviewed, post so in a comment. I post the questions here, and you must answer them on your blog with a like offer to interview 5 more people. hmmm...something of a chain, but with no damnation idiocy at the end. I love it.

My interview:

1) Where on earth do you want to visit that you haven't been to yet?

So many places! We traveled to Europe as kids, and that was unique for three middle class American girls. But we never saw the big U.S. destinations (Disney, NYC and DC excluded) So I guess I would have to say the National Parks. Al has promised we'll go to Italy "early in our marriage" so that has to be emminent. Then the list gets too big, Fiji, Australia, Argentina...

2) What is the best deal/sale you've ever gotten?

You know I can't stand myself when I get bargains. I am a deal freak. This is a toughie. Really, Jenn! I'll give you a top 10.

10. Target $1 spot. Love it.

9. 99 cent store had packages of glow necklaces/bracelets. Each package had three necklaces and 3 bracelets. They were awesome, you know the kind you pay and arm and a leg for at Six Flags? We used them all up over the 4th of July with our neighbors the Millers.

8. Bought a ton of Waterford crystal from our former neighbors. They were in the consolidation phase of life, and didn't even want me to pay them. I insisted. It was still a steal. It matched our pattern.

7. Redeeming 300,000 miles on American Airlines for first class tickets to Paris with my 80-yr-old grandmother, Dulce. The best perk of business travel ever.

6. Clothes? Don't get me started. Probably the stuff I buy for the kids from www.thecucumbersandwich.com. Their website is a total mess but if you have patience and receive their promotional emails, it is very cheap. They have a silly "make us an offer sale" where you actually email them with prices you are willing to pay for their stuff. Fun! And the same things I bought from them cheapo were on sale in hoity toity shops in Carmel, CA full price.

5. Neiman Marcus outlet -- best deal I got there was an italian hand painted glass light fixture. It hangs perfectly above our bar.

4. At an estate sale in Dallas I bought a nice side table for $0.75

3. I love IKEA's discount section. Got a fun turquoise chair there for $15 and a nightstand with drawer for $5. They actually give you a discount if you take the already assembled stuff. Crazy Swedes.

2. Wine at Specs. Cash discount. 2000 Bordeaux futures.

1. Two for one babies, of course!

3) I know you are (justifiably) proud of your C.F.A. and your role as a mother, but -- if you could choose a different career, what would it be and why?

Something where I champion people, for sure. I am too touchy feely for a life completely out of the maternal world or completely in the financial one. Ultrasonography fascinates me, and I seem to have a knack for seeing through the images. I would also like to dabble in a million things: oboist, rancher, photographer, oenologist to name a few...but none of them stands out as the definite thing I would spend ALL my time doing.

4) What was your first impression of Al?

A man in a nice suit. He seemed a little stiff? I was being interviewed! It was a little intimidating, but he was nice. It was not remotely the case where you go, "oh, he's good looking" or anything like that. I was a senior at SMU, ready to make money and prove I could play with the boys. I did! I worked my butt off. He noticed.

5) What TV show/s is/are gone that you desperately miss?

Felicity

La Femme Nakita (starring Peta Wilson)

just waiting for the next season:
Deadwood
Grey's Anatomy
American Dream

American Dreams got cancelled! I liked it, too.

I remember when I met Al the first time: it was in Eatzi's and you introduced him as a coworker and I thought "he's CUTE!"

OK, I asked question No. 2 knowing you liked to get DEALS, but I had no idea you had a TOP TEN LIST! Haha, that was great. A 75 cent end table - for real? I am jealous. But the Waterford sounds like the best deal of all.

Also, on No. 5 - I knew you'd say Felicity!!! I still miss Northern Exposure (although I now know most small towns are not filled with such erudite, interesting people) and recently NYPD Blue. I hope next seasons Grey's Anat. is as good as the first!
