Fogged In

The scab has fallen off and Paigie is completely healed from the headwound, so it must be time for another post. Behavior is very acceptable, and this morning it was so amazingly good I let them choose their lunch. They went for cheeseburgers with truffled french fries. Oh la la.

We have just moved rooms for the last time within our stay here. We are now housed in a quaint, small 3 room cottage. Paige and Graham are over the moon about one feature of the new digs: BUNK BEDS. How enamoured are they, you may be wondering? Well, they are voluntarily taking a "nap" right now. They asked for the curtain to be drawn and they snuggled in. With Evelyn asleep in her room and Al gone (and Louise taking a couple hour break) I am...so strangely... a l o n e ...

I also had time to take a luxurious swim a l o n e in the ocean today. It was placid and murky here under gray skies, but so nice. I even went for a little kayaking a l o n e before walking up the beach and enticing a cabin-feverish-heebie-jeebie-ee boy to join me for another invigorating/exhausting turn in the kayak. The other day it was super choppy out on the water and he named the big waves "sha-pooneys" and we played like we were pirates out there. Today we just paddled and paddled and he ran his hand in the water as we glided around the Sound. Then we ditched the kayak and went back out into the water, because, in little boy glee, he wanted to pee, and then we floated around on our backs and doggy paddled around so much so that I am now feeling the lull of the waves while sitting on the couch.

Evelyn is hamming it up and gibber jabbering these days. I walked her up and down the beach for a long time yesterday, encouraging her to let go of my hands. She is steady enough to walk on her own but chooses not to. She does choose to walk right in the waves (small) where they break on the sand. I am amazed at that. With sand and pebbles and shells washing all over her, she loves it. She walks up to the high tide mark and then delves back in again. Her suit is inevitably full of treasures when we bathe her at days end.

Paige is exploring written words, asking to spell things, studying her books and loving the library. She is very into drinking hot tea, usually camomile, at all times of day. She wants more than anything to have alone time with mom, but when we are all together she takes the lead with her siblings and makes sure everyone is doing what they should. Including Dad.

I am joined by two whispering children. It was a short "nap" but I enjoyed the silence.

Alone time is pretty amazing, huh? Very much appreciated when you are the opposite of lonely.

I think Evelyn and I could trade swimsuit treasures - I couldn't believe what I found after the rocky Italian beaches.
