BEHIND!

I am overwhelmed. The other night I laughed at Kate of Jon & Kate + 8 (yes, reality tv show) when she said, and I paraphrase, "Jon is like most dads, I suspect, when I ask him to take the children downstairs so I can get the cooking done, he goes down there and hold the couch down." She proceded to illustrate the difference between what he innocently thought was what he was asked to do and what she would have done if she had that task. It was Al and me in a cuter, made-for-tv nutshell. Kids were slipping up the stairs, up and down until they were all out of pocket. He whined a feable excuse that they have to come up to go to the potty. Yes, she said, but then you wrangle them back down there. um hmm. I think that scenario resonates with a lot of households.

Last night I pleaded with a lightly snoring Al. "Al, Al. Al, honey! Please please. I have GOT TO GET SOME SLEEP. I cannot listen to this child cough any more. I have given her water. I have given her cough medicine. Please help me so I can sleep."

"What do you want me to do?" he asks in a half-sleep whisper.

"Take her in the steam, get her tea, I don't know but please do something I have to sleep."

This is my umpteenth night in a row for being awakened. "Night dreams", coughs, hungry baby, poopie diaper, gas (not my own), burps, you name it. It's been rough around here in the wee hours for a strange string of nights.

I try to lay down. Cough. Cough cough. Muffled, but I hear it like a poker in my side. I go in there to find him in a grumpy heap on the rocking chair, staring her down.

"The problem is she keeps wiggling around and keeping herself up. She won't settle down."

Needless to say, I didn't think intimidation from across the room was going to be the tactic that led us all back to sleep, so I made her some tea and took her in the steam for 10 minutes. What seemed like 2 or 10 but was really more like 1 hr later, we were all asleep.

The pictures here are mostly from last weekend, on the Azalea Trail at Bayou Bend, in our garden and our neighbors'. Paigie has fancy straightened hair that almost made her Daddy and me cry in one of the pics. Ev continues to show her sense of humor, sneaking in her silly face when we posed together!

I feel like I am about 10 posts behind. Each day as I lay down with Ev to lull her to sleep, I construct posts with clever themes in my head that never come to fruition. Life is good, a little harried, busy and full of experiences! Bev is here. We took the children to the rodeo and they are looking forward to more adventures since their Spring Break begins in an hour and a half. Oh, my, where is that elusive sleep when I need it?

Sorry that you aren't getting much sleep. We aren't either with a sick mom, dad, and two little girls. We are waiting for the wave to hit the boys as well. I had to laugh at the John and Kate. I had a vivid picture of my dh in the triplets bedroom when I begged him to check...heard through the baby monitor my dh saying 'why are you crying?' The babies were about 2-3 months old. Yes, I crawled out of bed to actually see 'why they were crying!'

I'm sorry to hear that you're not getting much sleep. We've had several days like that around here and I wish the kids were the cause. It's the biggest kid (Joey) causing my issues. Work phone calls in the middle of the night followed by very early mornings. Eh.

LOVE the photos, especially the family one! And look at Paige with the straightened hair!! SUPER cute!

You and my both!! The baby boy actually sleeps better than the almost 5 yr old boy in our house between nightmares, scary nightlights/shadows, thirst, potty, etc... Then there is the snoring, constantly moving husband I sleep next to-but that's another post!! I crave just 6 straight hours. You and I need a serious spa/margarita getaway!!!
