Road to Rio Gala

Last night was a bit of a coming out party for me. The Children's Museum fete was themed Road to Rio. It wasn't about me at all, but still I was so excited and nervous. As my readers and friends know, I've been all over town with Evelyn strapped to me in various poses of try-as-I-may-to-be-discrete-while-breastfeeding. Last night, however, was different because:

1. BLACK TIE event (*!!!!!) and I got a strapless dress in a very pleasing size :) :) :) No baby bjorn carrier in sight! As I was getting ready for the evening, we reached a point in time when I told the kids I was going to put on my Spanx and my dress. We had a good laugh about the word Spanx and I said it would hold in my buns and tummy. When I was dressed, I walked into their room where they enjoying a bedtime story from Emily-the-babysitter and her friend Terry, Graham gave me his approval. But then he said, "Let me see what you have on under there" So I showed him the crinalin (spellcheck that one for me) and then realized what he was looking for -- the Spanx. So I showed him the leg part of them and we agreed it was kinda like a ballet leotard for mommies. Ha!
2. My mom, my trusted babysitter numero uno has heard the call of Bali Hai (South Pacific reference)
3. Anyone had an evening cluster-feeder who drinks exclusively from the boobie?!?!?

So, I was a little nervous going. But after much crying and consoling -- the baby not me -- I was informed via text message that Evelyn TOOK THE BOTTLE! Just a few sips on her part but I was toasting her (and gulping down wine to steady my nerves) with our table of guests! I'm sure that was the first time a toast ever went like this "She took the bottle! Cheers!"

All's well that ends well, and we came home after 3 1/2 hrs of food, formal wear and rockin some serious 70s tunes (play that funky music) to find this:

I am adding in various pics from the past weeks that tickle me.

Whenever I look at your photos, I always feel like I'm sitting right there on the sidelines with all of you. You take great shots and of course, have great subjects. I really love the one of you and Evie in the pool. So cute! :) I like the matchy outfits in the one with Paige and Evie. I *heart* matchy outfits! And the one with all of the kids sitting under the chairs - priceless! :)

Great pictures! Glad Evie took the bottle, even without her Nana.
