Earlier this week, I spied a grey bundle in our junior-sized oak tree in the front yard. I walked up to inspect it and was thrilled to see the bigger of the two screeches. I scanned the branches and found the other baseball-sized owl on the east side of the tree.
Two days ago, my dad came over and moved the box from the magnolia to the oak. It isn't as grand a tree and has many scraggly oak branches preventing a good spot for the box. So my dad had to saw a couple of twigs off to nestle the box into the main branch, the right arm of the Y in our young tree, and Mr. Owl flew off as the tree branches shivered during this maneuver. I looked and it appeared Mrs. Owl had long since departed too. Shoot.
This morning, Graham wanted to plant a couple of his breakfast grapefruit seeds to see what'll happen. I opened the front gate, hesitantly bringing my eyes up the tree, and they are both sitting there, wise countenance and all. It won't be as camera-friendly a spot to watch them have their family, but then, the Leica might need a new, zoom lens.

It's like a "where's Waldo?" picture. Glad they came back. Our Daddy is pretty handy to have around, isn't he?
